Patients seek female staff for ECG tests at Pampore hospital

PAMPORE — Patients and attendants at Sub-District Hospital Pampore in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district have appealed to Health and Medical Education Minister Sakina Itoo to deputе a female staff member for conducting Electrocardiogram (ECG) tests on female patients.

Locals said female patients, including young and elderly women, are currently required to undergo ECG examinations conducted by a male staff member. They said the arrangement has raised concerns over privacy, dignity and personal comfort during the procedure.

The patients and attendants said the concern is particularly sensitive because ECG testing involves physical contact for placement of electrodes on the patient’s body.

They urged the Health Department to make suitable staffing arrangements so that female patients can, wherever possible, have their ECG examinations conducted by a trained female staff member.

The patients appealed to Sakina Itoo to intervene and direct the concerned authorities to review the staffing arrangement at the hospital and address the concern without affecting ECG services.

They said their demand was not aimed at disrupting medical services but at ensuring that diagnostic procedures for female patients are carried out with due regard to privacy, dignity and patient comfort.
