Srinagar: All India Imams’ Council National President, Moulana Usman Baig met Irom Sharmila supporters protest site in Imphal on Friday.
Sharmila also known as “Iron lady” has been on a hunger strike for the past 12 years demanding repealing of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act 1958, which according to her is a cause for violence in Manipur and other North-eastern states.
Moulana Baig in a statement said, “The state government does not like to take any action plan to repeal the draconian law AFSPA from the state of Manipur, instead they are spreading mere promises to keep the people mum.”
“Government of Manipur should take it as a serious concern otherwise Imams’ Council will take the matter to the centre and each and every nook of the country. Also such type of black law should be repealed immediately throughout the country,” he demanded.
