Pune: In the midst of debate over Triple Talaq, Muslim women in Pune protested against Triple Talaq Bill. The women demanded that no change should be made in the Muslim Personal Law.
It is worth mentioning that many Muslim women and organizations say that the Bill was not framed in consultation with Muslim organizations, Muslim women organizations or the Personal Law Board.
The protesting women said that there should be no change in Muslim Personal Law. They said, “Humare Allah ne jo humare liye kanoon banaya hai woh humare liye bahut sahi hai. Ek time par teen talaq hai hi nahi, yeh logon ne galatfemi phelayi hai” (The law that Allah has made for us is very right for us. There is no such thing as triple talaq is portrayed, it has been misunderstood).
Najma Saeed Sheikh, who participated in the protest, said, “We protest against Triple Talaq Bill. There are many flaws in this bill. The first thing is that advice from Muslim organizations, Muslim women organizations or the Personal Law Board has not been consulted. In the haste, the bill was passed in the Lok Sabha.”
She further said that if a person is in jail then what will happen to his wife and children? If he is in the joint family then will the family members stay with him? In addition to this, he questioned how the woman will be given allowance in case of her husband being jailed.
