SRINAGAR — Asking Pakistan to come down heavily upon terrorism, American President Donald Trump on Monday said that India is a trusted friend of the United States of America (USA).

Trump was addressing Namastay Trump event after his arrival in Gujarat city of Ahmedabad on his maiden visit to India.

Addressing the gathering, Donald Trump said that his administration is working in a positive way with Pakistan to crack down on terror groups, adding that US relation with Pakistan is a very good one and there are signs of progress in this regard and he is hopeful for reduced tensions in South Asia.

He said India is a trusted friend of America. He said that the world is proud of India’s achievements and there is a special place for Indians in the hearts of Americans.

Trump said that Modi was selling tea in Ahmadabad; however, he rose to this position through hard work and achieved landmark success in previous elections.

He said that India is the largest country among the developing countries and is doing exemplary well on its journey towards development, adding that India has always been a trusted friend of Americans.

President Trump said that India has the honour of producing more than two thousand films every year and Bollywood films are being liked globally.

While commenting on cricket, he said that from Sachin Tendulkar to Virat Kohli, Indian players have set an example through their exemplary performance in the game. He further said India is a country with diversity in unity, where people of different faiths live in harmony and where many languages are being spoken.

On trade relations between the US and India, Trump said that both countries have agreed on a 3-billion dollars worth defence deal.

While addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that from today, a new chapter in Indo-US relations has begun. He also praised the members of America’s first family on the occasion.
