Srinagar: All India Congress Committee (AICC) on Wednesday constituted a policy-planning group for Jammu and Kashmir under the chairmanship of former Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, sources said.
Reliable sources said that the group was constituted by AICC president, Sonia Gandhi.
The constitution of a group comprising of nine leaders including former Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh is aimed to hold dialogue with all stakeholders and help for peace building in the state.
The sources said that the group was formed following the continuation of fragile political and security situation in the Valley.
Besides Manmohan Singh, the other eight leaders in the group are Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member Dr. Karan Singh, former finance minister and senior leader, P Chidambaram, leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad, General Secretary of AICC, Ambika Soni, JKPCC Chief, Ghulam Ahmad Mir, Senior leader, Nawang Rigzin Jora, Senior Congress leader and former MP, Tariq Hameed Karra, and senior Congress leader, Shyam Lal Sharma.
The group, according to the sources, was constituted after the newly inducted leader Tariq Hameed Karra urged the party high command to take concrete steps regarding the resolution of Kashmir issue. (KNS)
