Eight more die due to COVID-19, J&K toll 705

SRINAGAR — A 25-year-old youth was among eight more persons who died due to COVID-19 in Jammu and Kashmir since overnight, taking the fatality count to 705, officials said on Monday.

Among the victims, official sources said that four were from Jammu division and as many from Kashmir Valley.

A 46-year-old woman from Bakshi Nagar Jammu, presently at Rajpura Mangotrian, died a day after she was admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital Jammu. “She was suffering from Hypertension, Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, Hypothyroid Bilateral CAP with respiratory distress,” a doctor at GMC said, adding, “She died at 12:40 AM.”

The doctor said that a 65-year-old woman from Gangyal Jammu who was admitted on August 28 died at GMC Hospital Jammu. She was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, Hypothyroid and Community Acquired Pneumonia (CAP) with respiratory distress, a doctor at the hospital said.

A 45-year-old woman from Sector No. 7 Upper Ploura Janipur Jammu who was suffering from “Hypertension, Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus with Bilateral Infiltrates” died at 8:10 AM today at the hospital, the doctor said.

A 38-year-old man from Mir Pur Khour Jammu died 13 days after he was admitted to the hospital with “Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, Acute on CKD, Pleural Effusion Pyrexia with COVID-19 positive.”

Official sources said that a 25-year-old porter from Machil Kupwara died at Army hospital where he had a surgery some days back. He had tested positive subsequently, they said.

Late last night, they said, an elderly person from Kralgund area of the district died at SMHS Hospital here where he was admitted.

A 65-year-old from Baghi Sundar Bala Chattabal died four days after being admitted to SMHS Hospital with “HTN and COPD,” they added.

With these deaths, officials said that 705 people have succumbed to the virus in Jammu and Kashmir so far. Among them, they said 638 were from the Valley while 67 others from Jammu division.

Srinagar district with 221 deaths tops the list followed by Baramulla (100), Budgam (60), Anantnag (50), Kulgam (35), Pulwama (49), Shopian (28), Kupwara (48), Jammu (45), Bandipora (25), Ganderbal (21), Rajouri (5), Doda (4), Udhampur (2), Ramban (1), Samba (2), Poonch (4), and Kathua (3).
