SRINAGAR — The Jammu & Kashmir Government on Saturday appointed Satish Chandra (retired IAS officer) of Andhra Pradesh cadre as the chairman of the Jammu & Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC).
In a notification, a copy of which is in possession of news agency Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Lieutenant Governer Manoj Sinha ordered the appointment of Satish Chandra, IAS (retired), as Chairman, Public Service Commission for the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
“In exercise of powers conferred by Section 93 of the Jammu and Kashmir Re-organization Act, 2019, and S.O. 3937 (E) dated 31st October 2019, read with Order issued in terms of sub-clause (i) of clause (c) of the Proclamation issued by the President dated 31st October 2019, the Lieutenant Governor of Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir is pleased to appoint Mr Satish Chandra, IAS (Rtd.), as Chairman, Public Service Commission for the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir,” reads the notification.
As per the notification, Chandra shall hold the position of chairman of the Public Service Commission until he attains 62 years of age. This means he would hold the position till November 19, 2023.
According to the notification, his appointment shall take effect from the date he assumes the office.
Chandra, an IAS officer of the 1986 batch, attained superannuation in November 2021. Chandra, who has held several key positions in Andhra Pradesh, also served as special chief secretary to the Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.
He also served as joint secretary in the Union Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers from 2008 to 2013.
