SRINAGAR — Signatories of Gupkar Declaration met here at Gupkar-based Farooq Abdullah’s residence on Thursday.
Jammu Kashmir Congress President, Ghulam Ahmed Mir stayed away and so did IAS-turned-politician Shah Faesal. As per the Congress statement, Mir cannot attend the meeting due to some medical emergencies and stated that he has already conveyed the message to Farooq Abdullah.
Gupkar Declaration was passed on the evening of 4th August 2019, a day before the abrogation of special status of Jammu and Kashmir to defend the same.
Those who attended Gupkar Declaration 2.0 meet included Dr Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti, Sajad Gani Lone, Hasnain Masoodi, Ali Muhammad Sagar, Muhammad Akbar Lone, Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami, Muzaffar Shah, Javaid Mustafa Mir and others.
After the culmination of the meeting, National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah informed media that Gupkar Declaration will now be called as ‘Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration.’
He said, “Our battle is a Constitutional battle. We want the Government of India to return to the people of the State the rights they held before August 5, 2019.”
Farooq Abdullah said that signatories will meet in coming days again to take further course of action.
