SRINAGAR — The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Monday issued a formal order with regard to the holiday on September 23 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh.
According to an order under number 1093-JK(GAD) of 2022, dated 19-09-2022, as per the news agency KNO, Secretary to the Government, Dr Piyush Singla has said that every year September 23 shall be observed as a holiday in government offices and educational institutions across the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
“To commemorate the birth anniversary of “Maharaja Hari Singh Ji”, 23rd of September of every year shall be observed as holiday in Government offices and educational institutions across the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir under Negotiable Instrument Act, 1881 (Central Act 26 of 1881),” the order reads.
Pertinently, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha while announcing the decision had said the holiday is a “tribute to the Maharaja’s services.”
The decision came after senior BJP leaders met the Lieutenant Governor on Thursday evening, in the backdrop of protests by Dogra groups in Jammu, demanding the holiday in memory of the Dogra ruler.
