2G internet services suspended in Kashmir

SRINAGAR — The 2G mobile data services remained suspended for over nine hours on Tuesday in Kashmir in wake of 36th anniversary of Muhammad Maqbool Bhat, who was hanged on this day in New Delhi’s Tihar jail.

The services, as per consumers, were snapped in the wee hours of Tuesday morning and were restored at around 04:15 PM.

The services were also suspended on Sunday for a couple of hours in wake of Muhammad Afzal Guru’s death anniversary.

It is worth mentioning here that broadband internet and 4G mobile data services continued to remain suspended in Kashmir from last six months. The services were suspended on the day when the Central government abrogated the special status of Jammu and Kashmir (Article 370) and bifurcated the erstwhile State into two Union Territories.

Besides, a complete shutdown was observed in Kashmir today on the death anniversary of Maqbool Bhat, founder member of now banned Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF).

Witnesses said that all the shops and other business establishments remained closed throughout the day while as the public traffic remained off the roads. However, they said the private vehicles were seen plying normally throughout the day.
