7 Pampore youth arrested | They are innocent: Families

    Srinagar, Apr 16: Police in Pampore area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district have arrested seven youth for their alleged involvement in a stone pelting incident during a recent shutdown call given by Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani.

Families of the arrested youth have alleged that their wards were innocent and police was harassing them. They have demanded immediate release of youth.
Locals said that police raided the residences of several youth Saturday. “During the raids they arrested seven youth and have booked them under FIR number 34/2012, Under Section 307/336 and 148,” they added.
Families of the youth alleged that their wards were not involved in stone pelting or disruption of peace. “They have not thrown a stone or have taken part in street protest,” they said. “Police are harassing them without any provocation.”
“Earlier police used to call the parents of youth involved in stone pelting this time around they (Police) simply raided our houses and arrested our children,” they said and demanded immediate release of their wards.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Awantipora, Muhammad Irshad said that seven youth were arrested. “We are looking for a few more,” he said, adding that these youth were involved in stone pelting.
