Srinagar: In a recap of the 1990s when militancy was at its peak, the slain Hizbul Mujahideen militant Mufeed Bashir alias Raqib was given a ‘gun salute’ by his fellow militants at his grave yard in Zadoora hamlet of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Cop turned militant Mufeed Bashir was killed in a brief gun fight at Gundipora village of the Pulwama district on Saturday February 6 this month.
Locals from Zadoora village told CNS that panic gripped in the area after a group of militants appeared in its local grave yard and fired some six shots in the air to “honour” their slain comrade. “The action from militants was taken as attack on Army camp by locals and there was panic all around. Adjacent to the grave yard is the army camp of 53 RR and we thought militants have attacked the same camp but later on militants were spotted leaving from the grave yard,” locals said.
The incident according to locals occurred at 7:45 pm on Tuesday evening.
“Shortly after the incident Army personnel patrolled in the area but militants managed to take off safely,” they said.
When contacted a police official from Pulwama district said that he “doesn’t know about the incident” and will investigate the matter.
Earlier, one more militant was given 21-Gun Salute by militants in same district. (CNS)
