Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Asgar Ali Samoon told KNS that the former CM late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed along with the then Health Minister Choudhary Lal Singh had identified land at South Kashmir for the establishment of AIIMS in valley. “The official procedures and related have been completed and work over the construction will be started in very near future,” Div Com said.
He maintained that the site for AIIMS has been finalised after taking the health and other departments on board and that the location was approved after consideration of various factors. “We had to see whether the site could get affected by floods. The government has kept every factor in mind before finalising the site,” Samoon maintained.
It was further informed that besides the establishment of AIIMS, two more medical colleges one in Islamabad and another in North Kashmir’s Baramulla will be established.
“These two medical colleges will be associated with the AIIMS. Everything has been finalised and there is nothing like the government has shelved the project,” he added.
In view of the predications of the snowfall by the weather department in Kashmir valley, Div Com said that the men and machinery have been kept on tenterhooks so that the common masses would not face hardships during the snowfall and at its aftermath. He maintained further people at the time of urgency call dial 100 and avail the government assistance. “Our priority would be to clear the roads which are connecting various areas with the hospitals and health centres.
