
BUDGAM — Unknown gunmen today barged into a branch of Jammu & Kashmir Bank and looted cash in central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
Sources said that at least five armed men entered into Chandpora branch of J&K Bank and fired some shots in the wall. The gun shots created panic among the employees and customers present there.
They said during the melee, gunmen managed to loot cash and escaped from the spot.
This is the third bank robbery in Kashmir Valley in this month. Earlier, armed men looted cash from two branches – Grameen Bank in Kunzar area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla and Panzinara area in Srinagar outskirts.
Sources said that gunmen overpowered the security guard and snatched his Bara Bore rifle. The security guard has been identified as Abdul Rashid Sofi, a resident of Sanoor Kalipora.
A top police official, while confirming the incident, said they are ascertaining the details.
