KULGAM — One Army man was killed while three others were injured after an IED went off in Subhanpora area of Shamsipora in Kulgam district situated on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.

Sources said that the IED was planted inside a school building and detonated when an RoP party of 24 RR passed by. The school building has also suffered damage in the incident.

Injured Army men were shifted to 92 Base Army hospital where one among the four injured men succumbed to his injuries.

A top police official confirmed the incident and said that they are ascertaining the details, adding that more forces have been rushed to the spot.

Meanwhile, PRO Defence, Rajesh Kalia has said in a statement that militants have lobbed a grenade on Army’s Road Opening Party during the sanitization drill at 1015 hours today in Shamsipora area of Khanabal in Kulgam. “Four soldiers sustained splinter injuries. They have been evacuated to 92 Base Hospital,” he said.

A police officer said that a case under various sections of law has been registered and a massive hunt has been launched to nab the attackers.
