PULWAMA — District Administration Pulwama has taken up the task of cleaning Parigam Canal in Chewa Kalan of Block Newa under Back To Village Program. However, the locals blame the district administration that the concerned department has failed to demolish the illegal structures raised on the canal by some influential people of the area.

The administration has undertaken the task of cleaning Nala Parigam under the Back To Village program in Chewa Kalan in Block Newa of Tehsil Rajpora.

A representative delegation from Chewa Kalan Pulwama led by Ghulam Rasool and Muzaffar Rasool said that when the work on this canal was almost completed, unfortunately at Herapura Chewa Kalan, one of the residents namely Ghulam Muhammad Dar son-in-law of Ismail Dar and Abdul Majeed Wani son of Razzaq Wani have filled the canal with mud, boulders and sand. “By doing this, they have illegally grabbed a visible portion of the canal,” they alleged.

They added that it is the moment of concern for the administration that a few officers are showing ‘kind’ attitude to such people as they have failed to demolish illegal structures set up on this canal by these people.

The locals of the area are anguished and disappointed with the administration on the issue. They have sought the intervention of Union Territory’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to restore the confidence of the people in the administration.

Meanwhile, Tehsildar Rajpora assured that he will take cognizance of the matter and such illegal structures will be demolished and strict action will be taken against involved persons.
