Block Diwas a forum to connect with people to resolve their issues, says DC Pulwama

PULWAMA — District Development Commissioner (DDC) Pulwama, Baseer-Ul-Haq Choudhary on Wednesday said that the public outreach program, Block Diwas, is a trajectory to reinforce the connection with people. He made these remarks while speaking to a gathering of people assembled at Government Model Higher Secondary School Gulzarpora, Awantipora as part of Block Diwas (Youm-e-Block).

“The programme witnessed an overwhelming response from the people of Gulzarpora, Tokuna and other villages who apprised the DDC about their issue and grievances for early redressal,” an official said, adding that the DDC Pulwama spent the whole day in Tehsil Awantipora and redressed hundreds of grievances on the spot.

The visiting delegations of the public and the PRIs demanded the construction of an overhead water tank and a filtration plant in the village; the upgradation of PHC to CHC; Nayabat for the area; the upgradation of Government Middle school to Government Girls High School; the replacement of worn-out HT, LT lines from habitation to main road; development, macadamization of interior roads; establishment of a veterinary center in the village; the establishment of agriculture, horticulture store and KVK Depot; the establishment of Timber Depot; SRTC bus service from Gulzarpora to Pulwama among many other demands.

The DDC gave patient hearings to the grievances raised and assured quality disposal of genuine issues in a time-bound manner. He also gave directions for the redressal of many issues of urgent nature.

The DDC further added that the district administration is ensuring to provide all facilities to the people at their doorsteps and in this regard, necessary instructions are already given to line departments.

He was accompanied by the Additional Deputy Commissioner Awantipora, Zaffar Ahmad; PRIs, Ex-En R&B; Ex-En KPDCL; Ex-En Irrigation; Tehsildar Awantipora; BDO Awantipora and all other district officers.

On the occasion, the DDC said that such public outreach programmes are a regular feature now and appealed to people to become active participants so that the issues of daily importance are redressed in the minimum possible time.

He highlighted the objectives of the various governmental programmes, informing the public that these schemes and campaigns are aimed at reaching out to the people for the redressal of their grievances and addressing developmental issues.

The DDC directed the concerned officers to exhort for the completion of ongoing projects, roads and bridges. He urged the officers to complete the work within the shortest possible time.

The DDC also directed the concerned officers to be proactive and remain accessible to the people so that the purpose of the initiative is fulfilled. He impressed upon the concerned to conduct awareness programmes in the areas to sensitize youth about various self-employment and other beneficiary-oriented schemes.

He stressed that public participation is a must for the holistic development of society. He advised the people to make education their main motto so that their children will become officers.

He also briefed about the works taken up under various Centrally-sponsored schemes in the area by the Rural Development Department.

During the public hearing, various delegations, individuals and deputations from Panchayats apprised the DDC about the issues pertaining to the different departments including Health, Education, Horticulture, Agriculture, Jal Shakti, RDD, R&B, Power Department, Social Welfare, ICDS and other sectors. The DC assured the people that all their issues shall be resolved in the shortest possible time.

He further said that such public outreach sessions will also be held in other far-flung areas of the district as such programmes provide ample opportunity for the administration to have an on-spot appraisal and status of grievances the population of these areas is going through.

He said the aim and objective of the district authorities are to address most of the issues on the spot and avoid unnecessary delay which prolongs the stress on redressal of grievances.

Speaking on the occasion, officials from various departments raised awareness among the general public about the various government-sponsored schemes and urged people to take benefits from them.
