CISF men charged for Boniyar killing

Srinagar: Police have charge-sheeted the five Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel allegedly involved in the killing of a youth at Boniyar Uri in January this year.
Informed sources told Greater Kashmir that police presented charge-sheet in the killing of Altaf Ahmad Sood against the five accused before Judicial Magistrate Boniyar, who committed the same to Principal District and Sessions Judge Baramulla.
However, the accused have not been charged under section 302 RPC (murder). As per the charge-sheet, one of the personnel has been charged under section 304 RPC, the remaining four have been charged under section 308 RPC.
The Section 304 RPC means punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder and the cases charged under it are non-bailable.
Altaf was killed when CISF personnel fired on a group of people demanding proper electricity to the area.
Following the killing of the youth, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had accused CISF of using “excessive” force, which was “unwarranted and inexcusable”.
Omar had even said government will spare no effort in ensuring exemplary punishment to the CISF personnel responsible for the killing. Five CISF personnel were arrested hours after the incident.
“I have no doubts that Altaf was murdered,” CM had said.
Following the protests against the killing, state government had also ordered magisterial inquiry to be conducted by Additional Deputy Commissioner Baramulla.
