CISF men opened fire without provocation, witnesses tell Inquiry Officer

Srinagar: Amidst allegations of Home Ministry trying to hush up the Boniyar firing incident involving five CISF personnel, guarding the nearby NHPC run Power project, Additional Deputy Commissioner Baramullah, Manzoor Ahmad Qadri, who is probing the matter today began the proceedings of his inquiry. At least three witnesses recorded their statements with the inquiry officer.
Sources said that witnesses while recording the statement told Inquiry Officer that the CISF men opened fire without any provocation. One school going boy Altaf Ahmad Sood was killed in the firing and two other wounded when CISF men opened fire on the people protesting against frequent power cuts, sparking large scale protests in Uri area.
Chief Minster Omar Abdulllah called the killing as ‘murder’ and ensured justice to the victim’s family. Five CISF men were arrested on the spot and a judicial inquiry was ordered.
Meanwhile Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Bashir Ahmad Bhat, confirmed that some people recorded their statements with the inquiry officer on Wednesday.
He said that inquiry officer will continue to record the statements till 15th of January. Pertinently the ADC is supposed to submit the report within 15 days.
