Copies of Quran set ablaze; tension in Srinagar outskirts

Srinagar: Tension gripped Lawaypora quarter of the city Friday morning following desecration of holy Quran and other religious relics.
Residents of Gund Hassi Bhat allege that copies of holy Quran and Alam Sharief housed in a local shrine and an adjacent mosque were apparently set ablaze during night hours and locals found it when they went there for morning prayers on Friday. This sparked an outcry with people coming out of their homes to protest. Top police and government officials including Deputy Commissioner have rushed to the spot and are trying to pacify the agitated residents.
The incident took place three days after a mysterious fire destroyed Dastgeer Sahib shrine in Srinagar sparking a Kashmir wide protests.
Several organisations including States official Grand Mufti has called for protest marches today prompting authorities to impose curfew in the city.
Pertinently fresh incident of desecration took place in an area where a mosque was torched in similar fashion few months back.
