COVID-19: Dozens of shopkeepers booked in Srinagar

SRINAGAR — From past week, dozens of shopkeepers and people have been booked for violating government orders. At Khag Budgam, police booked two persons namely Nazir Ahmed Malik and Shabir Ahmed Malik, both residents of Shunglipora for violating prohibitory orders.

Similarly, police station Nowgam registered 4 FIRs vide number 40, 42, 43 and 44/2020 against Ghulam Nabi Bhat of Lasjan, Javaid Ahmed Dar, Muhammad Afzal Mir of Lasjan, Muzaffar Ahmed Mir, a resident of Darbugh Harwan for violating COVID-19 advisory. Police also seized a Tata-Mobile vehicle (JK04D-7911). Nowgam police also seized a tipper (JK01L-2519) and arrested the driver.

Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh detained a shopkeeper identified as Bilal Ahmed Shah of Parimpora near Nehru Park and registered an FIR vide number 47/2020 under Section 188, 269 against him.

Similarly, two shopkeepers were arrested by police for violating government orders. They have been identified as Munir Ahmed Sheikh of Kohna Khan Dalgate and Ajaz Ahmed Shah of Rainawari Srinagar.

SSP Srinagar, Dr Haseeb Mughal said that police alone can’t enforce this lockdown and they can’t stand outside every house. “They are also vulnerable like common people. People have a role to play. Presidents of Mohalla Committees can play a positive role and it is their duty to persuade people to stay indoors,” he said.
