COVID-19: Ninth death in J&K as man dies in Srinagar

SRINAGAR — A 32-year-old man from Srinagar succumbed to COVID-19 at SMHS Hospital on Wednesday late evening, marking the youngest death due to coronavirus in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to reports, this young man from Alamgari Bazar area in central Kashmir’s Srinagar district was attending his ailing father, who was admitted in Cancer ward of the Super Specialty Hospital in Sheereen Bagh.

He was admitted in the hospital with coronavirus-like symptoms and died on Wednesday night. His samples were taken, which tested positive hours after his death.

His dead body was sent for burial, following the set protocol related to the last rites of COVID-19 patients.

According to hospital sources, the man had no travel history, but he may have caught the infection in the Sheereen Bagh Hospital while attending his father, where another female plastic surgery patient was admitted who along with her attendant (her daughter) had tested positive.

With this, the death toll due to COVID-19 in Jammu and Kashmir has risen to 09, out of which 08 are from Kashmir and 01 from Jammu. As of now, 03 patients from Srinagar have died, equaling the toll in Baramulla district.

As of now, J&K has reported 775 cases, out of which 445 are active positive and 322 have recovered. Nine have died.
