COVID-19: SMC Corporator tests positive, many others quarantined

SRINAGAR — Four days after his brother tested positive for the novel coronavirus, swap samples of SMC corporator, a resident of Narwara Srinagar, on Tuesday returned positive for the disease.

The development has prompted Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) to move around a dozen corporators as well as staff associated with Mayor and his deputy to quarantine.

Nodal Officer, Dr Saleem Khan confirmed that the corporator has tested positive for the pathogen.

SMC Commissioner, Gazanfar Ali said that the corporators, Mayor and Deputy Mayor’s staff was quarantined soon after reports were received.

The brother of the Corporator after arriving in the Valley from outside J&K had concealed his travel history and was living with his family.

After neighbours informed district administration Srinagar about him, he was put in quarantine on April 28 and tested positive on Friday last.
