SRINAGAR — A 25-year-old man who had gone with ‘Tableeghi Jamaat’ was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Rambagh area of central Kashmir’s Srinagar district on Saturday morning, with family alleging the murder of their beloved. However, police said that preliminary investigations suggest “epileptic shock” to be the reason for the death.

Reports reaching the news agency GNS said that a man identified as Salman Irshad Wani (25), son of Irshad Ahmad Wani and a resident of Rambagh was found mysteriously dead by the locals, following which they informed the police.

The family members said, “We were waiting for him to return and have dinner with us. We called him several times, but he didn’t respond. This morning, we received a call from the police saying that your son was found dead in Rambagh, Srinagar.”

“He was a kind-hearted and religious man of 25 years old. He used to offer five times Salah and even had no bad habits,” they said, adding that he was out of his home with the Tableeghi Jamaat.

“He used to call us and show us the Jamaat members he was with. We don’t know what happened to him and how he was found dead in Rambagh,” they said, adding, “We request the government to conduct a fair and legal investigation into the matter and find the murderer because it is not in any way a natural death.”

Meanwhile, police said that as confirmed by his parents, the deceased was a patient with epilepsy and was under treatment. “As mandated under the law, the body was taken for post-mortem analysis and inquest proceedings under section 174 of CrPC have been started by Sadar Police Station,” police said in a statement, adding, “Prima facie, the cause of death seems to be an epileptic shock.”
