Drivers demand election payment, stage protest in Pulwama

PULWAMA — The Taxi Union Owners Pulwama in south Kashmir on Thursday appealed to the district administration to release the payment for the service availed by the administration during DDC and BDC elections held in November 2020.

The Union alleged that district administration Pulwama has been resorting to dilly dally tactics in releasing the amount to the tune of Rs 13 lakh on account of fare charges of 34 maxi cabs employed by the authorities for the elections in 2020.

“The district administration requisitioned 34 maxi cabs during the 2020 DDC and BDC elections and the authorities assured that the payment will be released soon after the conclusion of the elections,” Taxi-Union President, Muhammad Hussain Lone told news agency Kashmir News Trust.

He added, “For the past over a year, we have been waiting for the payment but the administration seems to be in no mood to pay us our money which we deserve.”

The drivers staged a protest at Alamdar Sumo Stand Pulwama, seeking the intervention of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
