SRINAGAR — The narrow road at Sub-district hospital Pampore here in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district is irking the patients as everyday hundreds of emergency vehicles get blocked by traffic while bringing patients to the hospital.
The narrow road near SDH Pampore at Kadalbal in Saffron town here leaves no room for drivers to allow ambulances and school buses to pass during emergencies that cause delay for emergency responders particularly carrying heart attack patients and women in labor to the hospital.
“The road network here is below par. Though the traffic during past years have increased manifold but the road remains to be same,” a local rued, adding, the administration is doing nothing and continues to act like a mute spectator.
According to local residents, Kadalbal road is the busiest road of the town. It not only connects with SDH Pampore but also connects with Government Boys Higher Secondary School Pampore, Government Girls Higher Secondary School Pampore, Fire and Emergency department and various private schools besides court and police station. Hundreds of vehicles ply on this road but there are no efforts from the district administration to expand it.
Shaheen Ahmed, who is running a shop in the area, says that parents fear for the safety of their children while going to school because of the increased vehicular movement on the narrow road, adding, the area has witnessed dozens of deadly road accidents but administration shows complete negligence. “During last couple of years, this road due to its narrow space has seen deadly accidents.”
“This road is witnessing frequent traffic jams and congestion every day. It is even difficult for the patients to walk through the narrow roads not to speak of the vehicles. Not a single day passes when we do not see the traffic mess at SDH Pampore putting the patients as well as students, commuters to inconvenience,” said another local, Suhail Ahmed.
Residents, however, urge government to go for widening of this important road to overcome from the regular traffic mess. The government and district administration should immediately expand this road to give people a respite, locals demanded.
“When government is acting tough against the encroachments in other areas, one fails to understand the negligence over this road. The concerned deputy commissioner Pulwama, Dr. Raghav Langar should act and remove the encroachments from here,” they said.
Commenting over the issue, a senior officer said that the authorities will act quickly to ensure hassle free movement on this road. “This issue will be resolved very soon,” he assured.
Though last year in December, District Development Commissioner Pulwama, Dr Raghav Langer visited SDH Pampore and took stock of the quality health services and medical facilities being provided to the patients here but the major concern about road is yet to be resolved.
DDC inspected various sections of the hospital including Emergency, operation theatre, Dental section, X-ray, Gynae and Post Operation ward and took stock of the medical facilities being provided to the patients. He inquired about the availability of medicines and other facilities in the hospital.
People said they had already asked the DDC about various issues faced by people due to traffic congestion on hospital road, staff dearth and non-availability of parking area in the hospital premises.
The DDC directed concerned Tehsildar for constituting a committee for transfer of four kanals of land under BDO’s Office to hospital administration “but so far nothing fruitful was done”.
