Facebook blocks newspaper’s Page for uploading Manan Wani’s picture


Srinagar: Facebook on Friday evening blocked the Facebook page of a Kashmir based newspaper.

‘Global Kashmir’ page was blocked and one of its posts with a picture of slain militant, Manan Wani was also deleted for not “following community standards.”

Global Kashmir’s page has nearly 1.83 lakh Likes and is followed by netizens across the globe.

“A message from Facebook said the block on the page will last for one month, and ‘you won’t be able to post on Facebook until it’s finished’,” said one of the staff members of the newspaper.

The message further said, “We removed the post below because it doesn’t follow the Facebook Community Standards.” Those who “repeatedly post things that aren’t allowed on Facebook may have their accounts permanently disabled,” said the message.

“A netizen had inboxed me a sketch about Hizb commander Manan Wani that I posted on my page. I was shocked to see a message from Facebook informing me about the development. I had never thought that a mere sketch of Manan Wani will result in the blockade of my page,” said the admin of the page.

He added that his intention to upload the picture was just give a space and platform to the artist who had sent it to him.
