Five minor girls drown at Zewan Srinagar
The girls were rescued jointly by the police and local people

SRINAGAR — Five minor girls drowned in stagnant rainwater near stone quarries in Zewan area of Srinagar this afternoon. The girls, among whom three are alright and two were shifted to a hospital, were rescued jointly by the police and local people.

Eye-witnesses said that many children including minor girls were playing on the eve of Eid and at least five of them slipped into the stagnant rainwater near stone quarries at Zewan. Locals informed police and later carried out joint rescue operation.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Pantha Chowk, Sajad Bukhari said that three girls were rescued and are perfectly alright but two more, who were also rescued, were having breathing issues.

“They were shifted to Sub District Hospital Pampore where doctors are attending to them,” he said.
