Srinagar: Flood threat increased in parts of Kashmir valley on morning Saturday after a cloudburst in mountains of Central Kashmir’s Sonamarg area resulted in abrupt rise of water level in river Sindh.
The condition poses a threat to hundreds of low-lying villages of Ganderbal district. Reports suggest that hundreds of people were evacuated from various vulnerable areas after the cloudburst.
“Since today (Saturday) morning, the water level in the Sindh Nallah has risen by over six feet. We are now dealing with an emergency situation,” Indo-Asian News Service quoted officials as having said.
