ANANTNAG — A gunfight broke out between militants and security forces in Kandipora area of Bijbehara in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday evening.

As per the initial reports, a joint team of Jammu and Kashmir Police and Indian Army launched a cordon and search operation in Kandipora, Bijbehara on Wednesday evening.

As the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight.

“#Encounter has started at Kandipora #Bijbehara area of #Anantnag. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow. @JmuKmrPolice,” Police tweeted.

As per sources, two to three militants are believed to be trapped.
