SOPORE — An encounter broke out between militants and security forces in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday, the Indian Army said here.
The Army, in a post on X, said that a joint operation was launched by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in Panipura area of Sopore in the Baramulla district, based on specific intelligence regarding the presence of militants.
“During the operation, suspicious activity was observed by the troops, and when challenged, the terrorists opened fire,” an unnamed official was quoted as having said by the news agency KNS, adding that the security forces effectively retaliated.
He said that the operation is ongoing, with security forces continuing to monitor the situation.
