Gunfight rages in south Kashmir’s Tral

Tral: A gunfight broke out in Chankitar area of Tral town here in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Reports said that government forces after receiving inputs about the presence of militants in the village cordoned off the village.

As the searches started, a contact was established with militants when they fired upon the search party.

A police official said that Army from 42 Rashtriya Rifles and 180 Battalion CRPF plus counter insurgent forces Special Operation Group were on job.

Even choppers were pressed into service to track down the hiding militants.

Local sources said that at least two militants are present in the village.

“Intermittent firing was going on while a large number of locals assembled on the roads and clashed with the government forces,” said an eyewitness. (CNS)
