BUDGAM — A sudden hailstorm accompanied by strong winds damaged standing crops and orchards across parts of Beerwah in Budgam district during the intervening night, with farmers reporting losses to fruit trees, agricultural crops and other produce.
Farmers said the hailstorm struck Beerwah suddenly and affected agricultural fields and orchards in the area.
They said the intensity of the hail and strong winds damaged fruit-bearing trees and standing crops, raising concerns over the impact on their seasonal agricultural income.
The affected farmers said the damage came at a time when they were expecting returns from their crops and orchards after months of cultivation and care.
They urged the administration to conduct an early assessment of the affected fields and orchards to establish the actual extent of the losses.
