Handwara Incident: Police launches manhunt for another youth

Srinagar: With situation in the trouble hit Kupwara district limping back to normal, authorities on Wednesday said that the manhunt for one of the two youth who have been mentioned in the FIR was on. They said that that they were still clue less about him and were putting all efforts to nab him.

Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Rajiv Ranjan told KNS that one Hilal Ahmad has already been arrested whereas the other was still at large. He however, said that police was looking after the law and order situation.

“The situation has remained peaceful throughout the day.” Ranjan told KNS. Meanwhile Police said that they were looking out for the second youth who was accompanying Hilal on that fateful day.

“We are gathering inputs about the whereabouts of the absconding youth.” SP Handwara Ghulam Jeelani Wani told KNS.

Meanwhile, after a week-long curfew, clashes and protests, life returned to normal in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Wednesday.

Curfew remained in force for the seven consecutive days in Kupwara district after the killing of three civilians including a woman in army firing on locals protesting the alleged molestation of a minor girl last week.

All the shops, schools, government offices and other business establishments opened today while the private as well the commercial traffic were seen plying on the roads after the curfew in the district was lifted.

Eye-witnesses told KNS that since the wee hours of this morning, people were seen thronging markets to purchase essentials materials including ration, vegetables, eatables and other essentials.

Five civilians including a woman were killed in Kupwara district during the subsequent protests in the area over an alleged molestation of a minor girl allegedly by an army man. (KNS)
