IUST condemns killing of Syed Shujaat Bukhari

Awantipora: Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) Awantipora has condemned the killing of senior journalist and Editor-In-Chief of Rising Kashmir, Dr Syed Shujaat Bukhari.

Shujaat was killed by unknown gunmen on 14 June 2018 (Thursday) evening at Press Enclave, Srinagar.

“Dr Bukhari was a well wisher of IUST and was Adjunct faculty in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication. The University in particular and people of the State in general, have lost a great journalist, a visionary scholar and a noble soul,” the statement issued by the University said.

The statement further said, “IUST strongly condemns this act of violence & prays for his soul to rest in peace and patience to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.”

Earlier, the University’s faculty members under the banner of Islamic University Faculty Association (IUFA) also expressed grief and shock over the killing of Syed Shujaat Bukhari.

Terming it as an attempt to silence a voice of reason, logic and peace, IUFA expressed deep condolences to the family members and friends of Dr Bukhari.

In its statement, the association said, “IUFA strongly criticizes this barbaric act and demands that the state government nab the culprits at the earliest. We pray for his soul to rest in peace and offer our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and journalistic fraternity. May Almighty give the family enough courage to bear this loss.”
