J&K Government to award one lakh rupees to flood saviours

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir government has decided to honour individuals, groups and non-governmental organizations who acted as ‘saviours’ during the unprecedented floods that hit the region last month.
The government said that these saviours displayed ‘exemplary courage’ while rescuing people who were trapped in various flood-hit areas. “Their missionary spirit has kept alive the spirit of love, brotherhood and humanity, despite the fury of floods,” they said.
In this regard, the government has decided to award 100 such individuals / organizations / stakeholders / NGOs with an award of one-lakh rupees each, an official statement mentioned. This is in recognition of their commendable service, it read.
The Divisional Commissioners of Kashmir and Jammu have been tasked to identify and recommend the names to the Government. “The Government has constituted a Committee, headed by the Chief Secretary, which shall scrutinize the recommendations, received from the two Divisional Commissioners,” officials said.
