J&K Police attach JeI-linked properties in Sopore under UAPA

SOPORE — Police in Jammu and Kashmir have attached two buildings, six shops and two kanals of land linked to the proscribed Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) in Sopore, officials said on Thursday.

The action was taken under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act following an investigation into a case registered at Police Station Sopore, officials said.

“FIR No. 42/2025 was lodged under Sections 10 and 13 of the UA(P) Act. During the probe, the properties were found linked to the banned organisation,” a police spokesperson told the news agency KNS.

The Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, on August 12, 2026, notified the premises under Section 8(1) of the UA(P) Act, the official said.

The properties included Islamia Model School at Dooru, which has remained closed since 2022, along with six shops and two kanals of land.

Subsequently, the District Magistrate, Baramulla, issued orders under Sections 8(3) and 8(4) of the Act on the request of Sopore Police.

A police team accompanied by the Executive Magistrate then carried out the physical attachment of the properties, the spokesperson said.

Police said the action was part of sustained efforts to identify and proceed against properties and assets linked to proscribed organisations and their networks.
