Srinagar: Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) on Friday deferred the strike call issued for August 26 and 27 to support Article 35-A.
The JRL comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik has now asked people to observe shutdown on August 30 and 31.
“As the Supreme Court of India is now hearing the case challenging the state subject law of J&K on 31st August as such the state-wide protest hartal by JRL against this nefarious move will now be observed on 30th & 31st August. However, protests by different segments of society will continue,” said Mirwaiz on Twitter.
During August 6 hearing, the Supreme Court had adjourned the matter till the last week of August.
Earlier, GK reported that the a bunch of petitions challenging Article 35-A might come up for hearing in the Supreme Court after August 30 as there is no mention of the petitions challenging the legislation in regular cause list of the apex court till August 30.
A source said the regular cause list of the apex court makes no mention of Article 35-A for hearing. However, he said it might be taken up in the supplementary list. The list is yet to be made public.
