Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (G) has handed over all the files related to detention of its leaders and activists under Public Safety Act to Kashmir Committee headed by former Union Law Minister, Ram Jeth Malani, sources said.
They said the files are being scrutinized by a team of lawyers led by Jeth Malani who himself is an eminent Supreme Court lawyer. “The Kashmir Committee lawyer team will see where the PSA is being misused in Kashmir and will challenge the same before the Supreme Court,” sources privy to Kashmir Committee said.
They said the Committee lawyers will file petitions challenging detention of separatist leaders and workers in Supreme Court from first week of March.
Some of the cases which the Committee lawyers will contest include, Dr Qasim Faktoo, Shafi Sharati and Mohammad Ayoub Mir. The cases are listed in first week of March.
The latest step has been taken after the recent meeting of Hurriyat (G) chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani with Jeth Malani and other leaders in New Delhi last week.
Sources said the Committee has taken the step to challenge the PSA detentions as a confidence building measure.
Meanwhile, sources said Kashmir Committee leadership has assured Geelani that they would facilitate his interaction with civil society members in Mumbai and south India soon.
“The Committee also plans to invite other separatist leaders including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik in future for such interactions,” they added.
