SRINAGAR — In a swift move, the district administration of Srinagar has announced payment of rupees 15 lakh compensation in favour of Next of Kin of Khanyar fire victims.

The District Development Commissioner, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary said that 15 lakh would be deposited in the account of the girl namely Soheda Javid (8) who lost her parents and 4-year-old sister in the tragic fire incident.

The government will also bear the education and other expenses of the girl child, the Deputy Commissioner said.

As per the procedure, the amount would go into a joint account of the girl and the DC and the money along with interest would be given to the girl after she attains the age of 18 years.

As reported already, a couple, Javid Ahmad Hakak (40), his wife Sobiya (28) and their daughter Hafsa (4) were burnt alive after their house was completely damaged in the overnight fire incident at Sheeshgari Mohalla of Khanyar in Old City Srinagar.
