SRINAGAR — District administration Srinagar, owing to the ongoing lockdown in wake of Coronavirus, had decided to distribute thousands of kits among deserving people so that they do not stay hungry. But ironically, a concerned Patwari directly unloaded these kits in the premises of former MLA
Hundreds of kits were prepared by the Srinagar administration at different places in Srinagar city. This was supervised by District Development Commissioner Srinagar, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary.
DDC Srinagar handed over these kits to officials including Tehsildars with directions that they distribute them among the needy.
Locals from Lawaypora Srinagar, however, said that the concerned Tehsildar handed over these kits to concerned Patwari who ironically handed them over to a former MLA and a political leader.
Locals added that this political leader who recently joined a new political party asked his aides to distribute these kits. “These ‘chamchas’ distributed these kits among those who voted for the political leader in last Assembly elections. In other words, only voters were given these kits. These voters include those who are very rich and some are even landlords,” the locals said and demanded a probe into the distribution of these kits.
The locals blamed concerned Patwari for the mess. They said that after receiving kits from Tehsildar, the concerned Patwari directly unloaded these kits in the premises of former MLA.
When contacted, the Patwari in question said that there is not truth in these allegations. He said only few kits have been distributed so for and these kits have not been given to a political leader for distribution.
