KUPWARA — The Kupwara Police arrested a militant associate with three grenades and 58 rounds of AK-47 in Sogam area of Kupwara district.

According to a Police statement, “on the basis of specific information regarding the movement of ANE’s, Kupwara Police along with 28 RR and 162 CRPF established a special Naka at Wani Dorussa Sogam.”

“During checking, one person was found in suspicious condition. On seeing the search party, he tried to escape from the spot but was chased and apprehended by the search party,” police said.

It added that the apprehended person on preliminary questioning disclosed their identity as Abdul Rashad Lone son of Ghulam Mustafa Lone and resident of Nagam Keran in Kupwara.

“On their personal search, three grenades and 58 rounds of AK-47 were recovered from his possession which they were to provide to militants,” the statement claimed.

“In this context, a Case FIR No. 27/2021 U/S 7/25 Arms Act & 3/4 Explosive Substance Act has been registered in Police Station Sogam and further investigation into the matter is under process,” police added.
