SRINAGAR — A complete shutdown is being observed in parts of south Kashmir against the alleged militant killings in an overnight gunfight with security forces in Lawaypora HMT area of Srinagar outskirts on Wednesday.

Eyewitnesses said that the shutdown is being observed in some parts of Pulwama and Shopian districts of south Kashmir to mourn the alleged militant killings in Srinagar.

“All but some shops and business establishments were closed off while public transport was thin on roads,” they said.

Pertinently, yesterday the government forces claimed to have killed three ‘hardcore militants’, planning to carry out a big attack, in a gunfight at Lawaypora. However, families of the slain trio contested the forces’ claim and staged a protest outside the PCR Srinagar, saying their sons were innocent and termed the encounter as ‘fake’.

It is worthwhile to mention that the slain trio were the residents of south Kashmir. Aijaz Maqbool Ganai, 20, belonged to Putrigam area of Pulwama, Athar Mushtaq Wani, 19, hailed from Below, Pulwama and Zubair Ahmed Lone was the resident of Trawangan, Shopian.

Meanwhile, Internet remains suspended in both districts as a precautionary measure.
