LG assures an impartial enquiry into Srinagar encounter: NC

SRINAGAR — National Conference’s Member of Parliament on Friday said that Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has assured him of an impartial probe into the Srinagar encounter.

Joint Forces claimed that it killed three militants in Hokersar Lawaypora area in an encounter. However, families of these slain youth contended the claims of Army, saying they were students not militants. Police later on, in a statement, said that two among the slain youth were ‘hardcore’ over-ground workers while third may have joined militant ranks recently.

The family of one of the slain youth and former Jammu Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti have already written to LG, demanding bodies and impartial probe into what they called a ‘staged’ encounter.

National Conference MP, Hasnain Masoodi met LG in this regard in Jammu. The party said that yesterday evening MP Hasnain Masoodi met LG and expressed his anguish over the reports surrounding Wednesday’s encounter around HMT area in Srinagar.

“Mr. Manoj Sinha assured an impartial enquiry into the matter,” he was quoted saying.
