Government forces during a gunfight in south Kashmir

BARAMULLA — A local militant was killed in a gunfight in Karhama Kunzar village of Tangmarg Baramulla on Saturday morning.

While divulging information about the operation, SSP Nagpure said Karhama Kunzar area of the district was brought under cordon after they received information about the movement of militants.

“There was an exchange of fire, leading to the killing of a militant who is a native of Kulgam district,” he said, adding that the slain militant was affiliated with the banned outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Nagpure said there is proper coordination between forces who are alert in the wake of the G20 event. “We are alert in neutralizing the threat. G20 event will be held peacefully,” he added.

Nagpuri was talking to reporters after the killing of a militant in an ongoing encounter in the district.

The slain militant has been identified as Abid Rafiq, a native of Yarhol Babapora Kulgam.

SSP Baramulla said that they are alert in the district and efforts are on ‘to neutralize forces inimical to peace’.
