HANDWARA — Amid restrictions on the movement of people in wake of COVID-19 pandemic, a cricket match was held in Handwara town today.

Hundreds of spectators were seen enjoying the cricket match between two local teams.

The cricket tournament final was held at Ganapora Kralagund area of north Kashmir’s Handwara town.

Pertinently, authorities have extended lockdown period up to July 25 in the town in wake of the rising cases of Coronavirus. All shops and business establishments are shut but amid this situation, the cricket final was allowed to happen.

Eyewitnesses said that a large number of people were present inside the stadium, forgetting the norms of social distancing as some were even seen without masks.

An official said he will look into the matter. District Development Commissioner didn’t pick up the phone.

The cricket match was going on till the filing of this report.
