PULWAMA — A Lok Adalat was today organized under the Chairmanship of Mr. Mohammad Ibrahim Wani (Principal District & Sessions Judge Pulwama) at District Court Complex Pulwama.
Four benches were constituted for holding the National Lok Adalat at district headquarters as well subordinate courts of the district.
Ms. Shaziya Tabasum (Additional District and Sessions Judge Pulwama) and Raja Mohammad Tasleem (Chief Judicial Magistrate Pulwama) and Secretary DLSA Pulwama presided over the benches.
350 cases of different nature were taken up during the proceedings, out of which 240 cases were amicably settled and a fine of Rs. 23,900 was realized.
“A total Rs. 33,80,900 amount has been settled in bank recovery and MACT cases with the efforts of the presiding officers as well as cooperation of Bar members of the respective courts,” a statement issued here said.
It is in place to mention that Lok Adalat is one of the alternative dispute redressal mechanisms, a forum where disputes/cases pending in the court of law or at pre-litigation stage are settled/compromised amicably.
Lok Adalats have been given statutory status under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987.
