Train - Caution

ANANTNAG — A man lost his both legs after he tried to commit suicide by jumping in front of a moving train in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Monday afternoon, an official said.

An unnamed official was quoted by the news agency KNO as having said that a man (name withheld), resident of Mattan, tried to commit suicide when he jumped in front of the train at Laram Ganjipora in between Sadura-Anantnag station.

His legs got stuck under the running train, which dragged him and both his legs were severed in the incident, he said, adding that the train was coming from Banihal to Baramulla when the man jumped in front of it. “The injured man was rushed to GMC Anantnag for treatment wherefrom he was referred to Srinagar hospital for further treatment,” he added.

Meanwhile, J&K Railway Police has issued an advisory for the general public, asking them not to use the railway tracks for walking and also warned of action against trespassers.

“We appeal to the general public against walking on railway tracks or stealing livestock. If any person is found involved in such activities, strict legal action will be taken against him. He shall be personally responsible,” the Railway Police advisory reads.
