SRINAGAR — The body of a man missing for the past 20 days has been recovered from the waters of the Jhelum River in the Safa Kadal area of central Kashmir’s Srinagar district on Sunday afternoon.

According to a police official quoted by a local news agency, an unidentified decomposed body was retrieved from the Jhelum near Safa Kadal.

The authorities took the body into their custody, following which it was identified as that of Basharat Ah Bhat, son of the late Ali Mohd Bhat and a resident of Naid Kadal Srinagar, who had been reported missing since this month in 2023.

The recovery of Bhat’s body has prompted further investigation into the circumstances surrounding his disappearance and subsequent demise.

Authorities have assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted to ascertain the cause of Bhat’s death and provide closure to his family and loved ones.
