SRINAGAR — Panic gripped residents of Keran along the Line of Control as massive mortar shelling rocked the region in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Thursday night, official sources and locals said.
A number of residents said over phone that there has been “massive” shelling along the LoC in Panzgam and adjoining areas. “Those having bunkers have taken shelter in them while others have moved to safer places,” they said.
Officials confirmed the shelling, saying that “Pakistani troops carried out the ceasefire violation and Army’s 290 field regiment is responding befittingly.”
When this report was filed, there was no casualty reported.
Last week, at least two civilians were killed and four others including a woman injured in the shelling in the Kupwara district.
